When Cinewav initially launched, they operated from an AWS Cloud Region located in Singapore. However, as they started gaining traction in the United States and other countries, they encountered latency issues.

They came to us for consultation, and we helped them understand the importance of optimizing their system to enhance performance. We proposed to them the concept of multi-regional deployment. This would involve utilizing multiple cloud regions worldwide, ensuring quick and accessible service on a global scale.

Since this is a complex and complicated undertaking, Cinewav requested our expertise to ensure the success of their multi-regional deployment.

The Solution

Architecture and Implementation

We engaged in a combination of architectural planning and hands-on implementation to optimize Cinewav's cloud infrastructure. We provided various options for Content Delivery Network (CDN) selection, taking into account that Cinewav is a startup and may have sensitivity to cost.
Additionally, we projected potential data transmission volumes and evaluated different scaling options to ensure efficient resource allocation.

The first step in improving Cinewav's system was the implementation of a multi-regional deployment. This approach allowed us to serve customers from different regions promptly, ensuring low latency and a seamless user experience.

The multi-regional deployment significantly enhanced the platform's global reach, reduced latency, and improved performance and thus user satisfaction.

CDN Optimization

We focused on optimizing Cinewav's Content Delivery Network (CDN) to further enhance mobile performance and content delivery speed. By strategically selecting and configuring the appropriate CDN solution, we minimized latency and improved the overall user experience.
The CDN optimization ensured that Cinewav's content, including videos and audio sets, was delivered efficiently to end-users, regardless of location.

Server Upscaling and Efficient Resource Utilization

Besides CDN optimization, to ensure great mobile performance, we focused on the need for server upscaling based on system demands.
We implemented a combination of AWS Auto-Scaling Groups and Karpenter, to efficiently scale Cinewav's server resources. Auto-scaling allows Cinewav to smoothly serve up to 100,000 users at a time, with the ability to scale further when needed. Additionally, we used AWS Aurora Relational Database Service, a scalable database solution, to gain the required database performance and optimize costs.

 

The Benefits

Boosted Performance

AWS's scalable infrastructure allowed us to seamlessly handle the significant fluctuations in user traffic that occurred during events hosted on Cinewav. By leveraging AWS's auto-scaling capabilities, we could dynamically adjust our server capacity to meet the peak loads without any disruption to the users' experience.

This means that during times when the number of concurrent users accessing Cinewav's platform is high, AWS's scalable infrastructure enabled us to automatically and rapidly provision additional servers to handle the increased workload.
Conversely, during periods of lower demand, such as in-between events or during off-peak hours, we can easily scale down our server capacity.

Cost Reduction and Savings

Our expertise in cloud optimization led to substantial cost savings for Cinewav. By analyzing usage patterns and demand fluctuation, as well as defining optimal services and instances configuration, the team identified the possibility to use spot instances for some workloads to further reduce the cost.

AWS's auto-scaling feature allowed us to reduce costs by automatically removing unnecessary servers and resources when they were no longer needed.

Together, all of these cost-saving measures resulted in a 30% reduction in runtime costs for Cinewav's AWS.
