Spooky x Techy Halloween: How Softjourners Built Their Own Monsters

Last week, something unusual happened inside Softjourn’s global network.

For a moment, code reviews paused, and Slack grew a little quieter. Across time zones, we synced into Halloween mode.

It began with a Culture Corner webinar, where our teammates from the U.S. shared the roots of Halloween, how the holiday evolved, and what it actually feels like to experience this holiday in the United States: from neighborhood trick-or-treating, college parties, and unforgettable costumes to personal candy rankings (yes, the debate is very real).

Meanwhile, in our Polish and Ukrainian offices, the spooky fun went fully offline: our teams enjoyed themed movie nights, delicious treats, cosy conversations, and one very special activity…

DIY MONSTER CREATION CHALLENGE!

People teamed up, grabbed scissors, cardboard, paper eyes, glue, and built their own monsters from scratch. Some were creepy. Some were funny. Some were… “uniquely expressive”. One by one, teams revealed their creature’s name, lore, and peculiar powers — hoping their monster would claim the crown as the trickiest Softjourn Monster of 2025.

Small events like this are one of our favourite ways to stay connected as a global team, whether someone is calling in from California or grabbing popcorn in Wrocław.

Thanks to everyone who joined, shared their memories, built monsters, ate candy, and made this Halloween so very Softjourn.
