Oleh Perehuda
BACKTHERE IS NO END TO THE LIST OF OLEH'S PASSIONS AND HOBBIES
Oleh was always ready to selflessly support and help his friends and loved ones. His wisdom, willingness to learn, and character made him a reliable and trustworthy man. He was a role model for the people around him, and everything he did reflected his cool mind, composure, dignity, and honor. He was the embodiment of everything bright and good that exists in a human being.
Vasylyna shared with us: I lost not just a beloved husband but a true friend, a true soulmate, who always supported me and who was a shoulder to lean on, my consolation. He was always there for me. There was not a single day when he prioritized his wishes above mine. He always approached various situations with understanding and was very caring and gentle. His smile always brought out the joy in others, while his serious look gave confidence in tomorrow. He always said that you can do anything, we can do anything, and we will overcome anything because we are a team. We always spent our evenings together, even after a hard day's work. He made tea, throwing everything he saw into it, and I cooked something delicious. We shared our worries and thoughts. He encouraged me to develop, supporting all my ideas. Our walks by the lake were our favorite time to think about the future. I'll miss him forever.
His wife, Vasylyna, recalls it's hard to name something that Oleh wasn't interested in or competent in. He led a very active and interesting lifestyle, with sports being one of his favorite activities, particularly swimming. During the summer, they would often spend evenings swimming together and enjoying each other’s company. He also had a deep love for spending time in the garden. He studied new varieties of bushes and trees with great interest and tended to them with care, resulting in abundant fruit. During the colder months, he would read mostly historical and business literature, as well as self-help books. Oleh was knowledgeable about cars and weapons, and he excelled as a marksman. He devoted his free time to honing his shooting skills in the shooting gallery. In addition to his other interests, Oleh was also an avid collector, with a particular passion for military badges, also known as chevrons. His collection consisted of approximately 60 chevrons, many of which were gifts from his former military comrades.
EVERY SOFTJOURNER IN ANY CORNER OF THE WORLD COULD COUNT ON OLEH
From 2018 to 2021, Oleh Perehuda served as a security officer at Softjourn; his kindness and supportiveness would never go unnoticed by his colleagues. During the pandemic, Oleh took upon himself office maintenance and supported remote workers, whether it was delivering items to remote workers or ensuring the safety and security of our Ivano-Frankivsk office. The memory of him as a responsible and trustworthy employee who assisted everyone in any way imaginable is what people remember most about him. He was a wonderful colleague and companion.
INTELLIGENT AND DETERMINED, OLEH KNEW HOW TO OUTSMART HIS ENEMY
Oleh “Skiff” dreamed of joining the military from a very young age while running around with homemade toy weapons. While studying at the military lyceum from his teenage years on, he showed an aptitude for skillful handling of weapons, exhibited leadership qualities, and earned authority among cadets and teachers. His steady and composed mind helped him set priorities correctly and achieve great results.
Oleh joined the anti-terrorist force in 2014, shortly after the annexation of Crimea and the start of the anti-terrorist operation. After two years of bravely defending Ukraine, he was wounded and returned home.
On February 24th, 2022, the day when the full-scale russian invasion started, Oleh enlisted in the military to defend Ukraine. Since he already had profound battle experience, he served as an officer, often risking his life to save and support his comrades.
A soldier who served alongside Oleh shared the following story about him:
Oleh was a true warrior on all fronts. He was courageous, clever, organized, and sensible. He was always the first to go into battle and led everyone behind him. It was never scary for him at all.
In 2014, we came under fire while entering Pisky, and I thought it would be our last battle. But thanks to Skiff, we came out without any losses.
On the first day of the invasion and explosions in February 2022, Oleh was already at the military commissary, ready to reenlist. Together with his boys, he drove the russians from Voskresensk to Snigurivka. He destroyed the equipment of the occupiers in the Kherson region. He held positions in Sviatohirsk when others withdrew.
He defeated several enemy groups in counterattacks near Bogorodychny, lib erated villages, and captured prisoners.
WE WILL REMEMBER OLEH FOR HIS MEANINGFUL ACHIEVEMENTS
In July 2021, he left Softjourn to pursue his passion for supporting returning veterans. Oleh knew firsthand how challenging it is to recover after hostilities, having had difficulty sleeping and adjusting to society after returning from the ATO. Together with a friend, he founded “Ukrainian Smart Automatics,” a company that developed innovative technology for hospitals, including a bedside panel featuring a doctor call system, light control, Wi-Fi access, and more. They collaborated with many hospitals in the western part of Ukraine and had many prospects and planned projects. Their next step was to present the "call system" and develop a console for hospitals.
Oleh and his wife also shared the dream of building a rehabilitation center for Ukrainian veterans. They founded the public organization and rehabilitation center called “4.5.0 Прикарпаття'' (in military slang, "4.5.0" means that the front is calm and without losses.) The center will provide three main areas of rehabilitation: psychological rehabilitation combined with a complex of civil adaptation measures, physiotherapeutic rehabilitation, and the use of a complex of pharmacological procedures and techniques. The main focus is on restoring physical and psychological health.
Oleh once shared: Mental health is one of the most important aspects of a normal and fulfilling life. Each of us sometimes faces certain situations that throw us off track, but we have to find the strength to move on. However, we cannot always overcome difficulties on our own, without the help of relatives and specialists. Post-traumatic stress disorder is the worst enemy of some veterans. Therefore, highly qualified psychologists and psychotherapists will work in our center, and they will find an approach for everyone.
Thanks to his fierce determination, his project flourished, and he worked to secure land and resources from local authorities, find donors, and bring together the community.
To commemorate the honor of our hero, Oleh, Softjourners united in an internal foundation to support his family. Softjourn, as a company, also donated to his Vasylyna so she could continue working on their mutual dream of creating a rehabilitation center.
