Scanning a ticket allows you to verify that the ticket is valid. Each ticket contains a unique code (barcode or QR code), which can be scanned and validated upon entry to the event. Tickets can be scanned using different devices and apps. No matter how the ticket is validated, it makes the process of checking in attendees at the events faster and more secure.

The Need

Imagine that you are going to a wine or food event and have bought a ticket. You arrive at the door, and the last thing you want is to wait in a long line to have your ticket checked.

EzTix, a Canadian company that sells a ticketing application to the food and wine event industry, recognized a need to rebuild its native scanning app, which is used at culinary festivals and tours and wine tastings. The organization needed to build a cross-platform app that could rapidly scan tickets at the door of an event. They needed the solution very quickly having a short deadline to meet the needs of their client.

The Solution

Per the need, Softjourn and EzTix decided to go with React Native Technology, because it is very efficient for scanning QR and barcodes from any device that has a built-in camera. A second decision was related to a cross-platform app that is basically native to the OS.

The technology was a good fit for the app, and the solution developed was able to scan a ticket in 0.3 seconds. Moreover, in the case of ticket packages, it determines the number of event admissions that remain.

Not only did the solution deliver speed and accuracy, it also ensured longer device battery life by automatically placing the camera in inactive mode while a user searched a guest’s ticket history.

EzTix, an event ticketing solutions company based in Canada, helps event organizers extend their reach and expand their revenue potential by selling tickets through sales agencies.
The Benefits

The app development took less than 4 weeks, which met ExTix requirements and delivered the following:

  • Rapid ticket validation through the ability to use a device’s built-in camera for scanning.
  • Look-up mode to track usage for season ticket holders.
  • Fast and seamless operations, specifically geared for winery and food events.
