"Softjourn ‘owned’ the project and took responsibility for its success. They made good decisions as needed for items missing from the specifications and as the specification needed to be changed."
Vendini: Adding More Power to Event Ticketing Software
ABOUT THE CLIENT:
CHALLENGE:
Vendini, live events managing business/online box office ticketing company, faced a fairly typical market challenge when demand outgrows supply, and the provider faces obstacles in catching up and satisfying customers. To meet these needs, Vendini’s functionality had to be improved and redesigned.
SOLUTION:
With a dedicated team of engineers, a project and product manager, and QA testers, we started working on Vendini's application to ensure the highest quality of solutions proposed. The main focus was on CRM system development and new features that would improve user experience.
RESULT:
Softjourn's team worked with Vendini, and our results were:
- New features added to Vendini's application
- Larger CRM system
- Access control mobile application development
About the Project
Vendini(now acquired by AudienceView) is a leading provider of box office software used by sports organizations, theaters, music venues, and educational institutions. They are a leading provider of box office software that helps event organizers sell tickets every day. Our client is working relentlessly to make their platform easy to use so different members of staff, and volunteers can get the most out of it.
Our cooperation with Vendini started with a few small projects related to venue management tools and printing applications. As they were already familiar with Softjourn's work and experience in the ticketing domain, they decided to partner with us once again, but this time for a much larger project.
Vendini came to Softjourn once they realized the platform was growing much faster than anticipated. As consumer demand was increasing, there was a need to upgrade their application and add new features.
Our client, one of the biggest names in the box office arena, reached out to Softjourn with a need for a team that could help them accelerate the application development project.
The key challenges of this project were:
- Analysis of the current state of things and prioritization of features that will be developed
- Getting to know the system and codebase
- Thinking about scaling solutions to future-proof further development
The Solution
The whole collaboration was based on our dedicated team working closely with the client's team. We kicked off the project with a few discovery sessions to understand what needs to be done with Vendini's application. We have included four software engineers, a QA tester, and a part-time Project Manager. The project lasted for three months, and in that time, our team worked on:
- Refund and exchange tickets features
- Discount features
- CRM system development
- Ticket agent system
- Access control application
The refund and exchange feature allowed venues to improve ticket management on the spot without involving Vendini in the process. Another important feature was the ability to assign discounts. Ticketing agents could offer better deals and group discounts on the spot and ensure all customers have access to tickets.
Our team also worked on the client’s CRM system to ensure the platform could serve many users simultaneously. As the client database is constantly updated, they need a system large enough to manage their patron information, sponsor relationships, and additional contact information. The access control application allowed our client to easily scan barcodes on tickets and create a frictionless event experience across venues.
Conclusion
Vendini and Softjourn formed a great partnership that started with small projects and turned into a big collaboration. During this project, Softjourn's team of industry professionals showcased knowledge and a deep understanding of the ticketing domain.
"This year, an estimated 1.6 million tickets will be sold, of which 25-30% of these will be package sales, which we could not have sold before Softjourn developed our solution", said Mark Guarnera, VP of Sales at Vendini.
